Rooftop Solar Program

Our proposed Rooftop Solar Program empowers families by providing affordable solar solutions, reducing energy costs, and promoting sustainable living in Cook County, enhancing the quality of life for low-and moderate-income households.

EREA is projected to coordinate the installation of rooftop solar panel systems—entirely free of charge to homeowners—on eligible homes throughout Cook County and surrounding communities. This includes

1. Free rooftop solar installations: Providing solar panel systems at no cost to eligible LMI families, to reduce the financial burden of adopting solar energy.

2. AI-powered optimization: Utilizing EREA’s dedicated Artificial Intelligence (AI) Platform to optimize the number and configuration of solar panels on rooftops, maximizing energy production and efficiency.

3. Bill reductions for LMI households: Directly reducing electric utility bills for low and moderate-income (LMI) families through the savings generated by the rooftop solar systems.

Unlocking Impact with 50 MW of Solar

This forward-looking initiative aims to deploy 50 MW of solar energy by transforming underutilized land—such as former landfill and Superfund sites—into productive clean energy assets. By generating and selling renewable electricity back to the grid, the project creates a sustainable revenue stream that directly benefits low- and moderate-income (LMI) households in Cook County, Illinois. Net proceeds will be used to subsidize electricity bills, building on the trusted infrastructure of the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County (CEDA), which currently supports nearly 189,000 households (representing over 400,000 individuals).
